Original Shenanigans Walking Tour

Shenanigans The Kilkenny City Walk was established in 2017 by Killkennyman Nevin Cody. Kilkenny’s best walking tour is packed with history, fun, stories, magic effects and of course plenty of shenanigans, combined in a unique fashion which brings the past to life to ensure you are inspired to dig deeper into all the treasures Kilkenny has to offer.

Commencing in the shadow of the majestic 12th century Kilkenny Castle, Shenanigans takes you on a magical journey through the streets of Irelands Medieval mile. The mile is book ended by Kilkenny Castle one end and the 6th century Saint Canice’s Cathedral and its 6th century Round tower the other (one of only 3 in the world which you can still climb). We weave a path through the city’s narrow streets and corridors, with the stories and history of Kilkenny’s famous landmarks such as Rothe House (Ireland only surviving merchants home), Kytelers’ Inn (Home of Kilkenny’s witch), Smithwick’s brewery and much more. Become a member of the Shenanigans tribe “Shenanigators” and learn our Celtic ROAR to ward off enemies and welcome home friends. Learn about the “Greatest Knight” who ever lived, the Monks, Normans, Celts and Kilkenny’s Witch all who lived in the city and county. Find out the origin of many turns of phrase such as…….

  • Where the phrase “The Stinking Rich” originates?
  • How a 12” needle was used to expose someone as a witch?
  • Why Kilkenny people are called “The Cats”?……. and many more.

Shenanigans Walks is not just filled with information and dates, it is an exciting tour that engages our guests through history, stories, fun and interesting facts. As skilled magicians, our guides use their skills to read minds and test to see who in your group is a witch and maybe even make a bottle of beer disappear.

Shenanigans Walks brings Kilkenny’s past to life, creating a memorable experience with something for all ages to enjoy. Avoid disappointment – book today.
